Hello! ** Physics in the Curriculum is currently under construction**
Here you will find an outline of my Physics in the Universe, or PITU, curriculum. I do not take credit for this work- it is an amalgamation of my first work in physics in Sweetwater Unified and built mostly through peer collaboration at Lake Washington School District. I just wanted to put it out there for teachers who don’t have the benefit of awesome peers- along with links to all my favorite simulations, discussions of my favorite labs, freebie labs and worksheets, and more that go along with my PITU lecture series on Youtube!
This NGSS-aligned curriculum is designed for to give all high school students, regardless of math proficiency, a basic understanding of the language of physics. It starts with how we understand the universe- applying concepts of scale, light, and waves to understand the history of the universe and how we know about it. Then it heads back down to Earth to understand motion- a brief dive into kinematics and then Newton’s Laws of Motion. That wraps up the first semester. Second semester starts back up in space- applying the laws of motion to the sun and stars, and then learning and applying the concepts of energy as well. It ends on engineering units- understanding momentum and impulse through a reverse egg drop challenge, and then an Ambitious Science Teaching unit on Electrical Engineering.
